Gold market hours
Gold trading hours in New York time.
Gold trades almost around the clock, from Sunday evening to Friday evening New York time. Kerwin's room trades one slice of it: 7:50 to 10:30 am ET, Monday to Friday, when U.S. data and the stock market open land on the gold chart. Here is the whole week in New York time, the morning minute by minute, and what this fall's clock changes do to the session where you live.

The trading week
When the gold market is open in New York time.
The most-watched exchange price for gold is the COMEX gold futures contract on CME Globex. CME publishes its hours in Chicago time. In New York time they are:
| New York time (ET) | As CME states it (CT) | |
|---|---|---|
| Week opens | Sunday 6:00 pm | Sunday 5:00 pm |
| Week closes | Friday 5:00 pm | Friday 4:00 pm |
| Daily break | 5:00 to 6:00 pm, Monday to Thursday | 4:00 to 5:00 pm |
New York and Chicago change their clocks on the same dates, so these New York times hold all year.
XAUUSD, the spot gold price most retail platforms show, isn't traded on one exchange. It trades over the counter between banks and dealers, and LBMA describes the London market as running "24 hours a day." No official body publishes a single open and close for spot gold, so your broker's platform sets the hours and the daily maintenance break you actually see. Check yours before you plan a session around them.

Clock changes
The 2026 clock changes and the New York session.
The U.K. sets its clocks back on Sunday, October 25, 2026. The U.S. follows a week later, on Sunday, November 1. New York goes from EDT to EST, which is why "ET" is the safe way to write New York time all year.
For the week of October 26 to 30, the gap shifts two things:
- The session starts at 11:50 am in the U.K. instead of 12:50 pm.
- The LBMA Gold Price afternoon auction starts at 11:00 am New York time, after the room closes, instead of 10:00 am.
From Monday, November 2, everything lines up again for the U.K. Places that don't change their clocks, such as India, Pakistan and the Philippines, see the session start one hour later from that day.

Questions
Questions about gold trading hours
Does gold trade 24/7?
No. COMEX gold futures trade from Sunday 6:00 pm to Friday 5:00 pm New York time, with a one-hour break from 5:00 to 6:00 pm on weekdays. Spot gold (XAUUSD) follows your broker's hours, which also close over the weekend.
Is the New York session in EST or EDT?
Both, depending on the date. New York is on EDT from March 8 to November 1, 2026 and on EST after that. Writing "ET" covers the whole year, and the session always starts at 7:50 am on the New York clock.
What time does the gold market open on Sunday in New York?
COMEX gold futures open at 6:00 pm New York time on Sunday. Spot gold on most platforms opens around the same time, but the exact minute depends on your broker.
Why does the room trade only 7:50 to 10:30 am?
Kerwin trades one pair in one window. That window covers the 8:30 am data releases and the 9:30 am stock market open, and trading the same hours every day makes Monday's session directly comparable to Friday's. Read how he narrowed it down.
