Gold, including spot gold (XAUUSD), trades almost all week, but several of the scheduled U.S. reports many gold traders watch come out in one stretch of the New York morning. Kerwin trades that stretch live on camera, 7:50 to 10:30 am ET, Monday to Friday, and talks through the price action. Here is what happens in each part of it, what sits just before and after it, and the dated U.S. reports and market closures through January 18, 2027.

Session times
What time the New York session is for gold (XAUUSD).
No exchange or regulator sets a New York session for gold, so broker guides each define it their own way. Spot gold trades over the counter almost around the clock, which LBMA describes as "24 hours a day" in London, and COMEX gold futures trade from Sunday 6:00 pm to Friday 5:00 pm ET.
What does have fixed times is the news. U.S. agencies publish their release times on the New York clock, and the stock market opens at 9:30 am ET. Reports at 10:00 am and the LBMA auctionISM Manufacturing comes out at 10:00 am on the first business day of the month, and JOLTS job openings come out at 10:00 am on their release days. The LBMA Gold Price afternoon auction starts at 3:00 pm London time, which is 10:00 am ET most of the year.

What happens before 7:50 and after 10:30.
- 5:30 am ET: the LBMA Gold Price morning auction starts at 10:30 am London time.
- 2:00 pm ET: on the final day of each Federal Reserve FOMC meeting, the policy statement is released at 2:00 pm, well after the room closes.
- 5:00 to 6:00 pm ET: COMEX gold futures take their daily one-hour break, Monday to Thursday.
The LBMA times move by an hour in New York for the few weeks a year when the U.S. and the U.K. are on different clock schedules. From March 15 to 26, 2027, for example, the auctions start at 6:30 am and 11:00 am ET.

The U.S. moves its clocks forward on Sunday, March 14, 2027, two weeks before the U.K. does on March 28. For those two weeks, U.K. times are one hour earlier than the table shows. Places that don't change their clocks, such as most of Arizona, Pakistan, India and the Philippines, see the session one hour earlier from March 15.

What time is the New York session for gold?
There's no official time, and broker guides define it differently. What is fixed is the news: U.S. reports come out at 8:30 and 10:00 am ET, and the stock market opens at 9:30 am ET. In winter that's 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm GMT. Kerwin's room runs 7:50 to 10:30 am ET to cover that stretch.
Does the New York session affect XAUUSD?
Gold is priced in U.S. dollars, and U.S. reports many gold traders watch, such as CPI and the jobs report, are released during the New York morning. That's why the session is a focus for many gold traders. How much any one release moves the price is different every time, and nobody can promise a move in either direction.
Which session is good for gold?
There's no single right answer. It depends on your schedule and on what you want to study. Kerwin chose the New York morning because the U.S. releases on this page fall inside it, and he trades the same window every day.
What time does the New York session open in the U.K.?
From November 2, 2026 to March 12, 2027, the room's 7:50 am ET start is 12:50 pm in the U.K., and the 8:30 am data comes out at 1:30 pm U.K. time. In the weeks when one country has changed its clocks and the other hasn't, everything shifts by an hour for U.K. traders.
Why does the room close at 10:30 am?
By 10:30 am the morning's scheduled releases have passed: the 8:30 am data, the 9:30 am stock market open and the 10:00 am reports. Kerwin trades the same 160 minutes every day so each session can be studied against the last. Read how Kerwin chose one pair and one session.
